Our notice to learners and supervisors

In January 2023, we advised learners that Keys2Drive was scheduled to close. Coastwide had delivered lessons through the programme, alongside our usual paid driving lessons.

The programme's closure is recorded in the Road Safety Advisory Council's May 2023 minutes (PDF, section 14). We have kept this page so that anyone finding an older free-lesson invitation can see that the offer has ended.

The final lesson dates

Our original notice gave learners these deadlines. They are retained as a record of the closure, not as current booking instructions.

  • Before 17 March 2023

New learners were told to register before this deadline to obtain a Free Lesson ID, known as an FLID.

  • 31 March 2023

The remaining FLIDs expired and this was the final date stated for completing a Keys2Drive lesson.

What the lesson involved

The Keys2Drive lesson brought the learner, their supervising driver and the instructor together. It included discussion and a practical driving component, with the supervisor present in the car.

At the time, learners registered for an FLID, contacted the school to arrange the lesson and received a booking through our system. That process has ended along with the programme.

Looking for driving lessons today?

Our regular driving lesson service continued separately from Keys2Drive. You can explore Coastwide's driving instruction for learners, compare current lesson packages or check instructor availability. These are paid services, separate from the former government-funded free lesson.
