National Road Safety Week 2023
Coastwide shared this message during National Road Safety Week, held from 14 to 21 May 2023. The campaign asked drivers to think about the people around them as if they were their own loved ones. That is a useful thought to carry into every drive, especially when you first get your Ps.

Your licence is a beginning
Getting your licence is a moment worth enjoying. It also means taking responsibility for your passengers and everyone sharing the road. The habits you developed while supervised need to stay with you when nobody is sitting beside you to prompt a decision.
Queensland learners under 25 generally build at least 100 hours of supervised experience and hold their learner licence for at least a year before progressing, subject to the applicable requirements and exemptions. Check the current licence progression guide and logbook requirements for your circumstances.
Those hours start the learning process. Unfamiliar roads, changing weather and different traffic conditions will continue to test your judgement. Our driving lessons that build safe habits aim to prepare you for those everyday decisions as well as the practical test.
Carry the commitment into your next drive
- Put the phone away. Give the road your attention and sort out messages before you leave.
- Respect the speed limit. Allow time for the trip and slow further when conditions require it.
- Keep alcohol out of your driving plans. Arrange a safe way home before a night out.
- Do not drive impaired by drugs. Consider medicines too, and check their driving advice with your doctor or pharmacist.
These are practical commitments to the people around you. A pledge matters when it changes what you do with the keys in your hand.
