Update#3 - Queensland Driving Test Information

It was great to see driving tests returning during that first week back. Our team worked through bookings for students whose tests had been cancelled, while adapting to the changes in how the school could arrange tests with TMR.

We also thanked the students who moved their lessons to help others fit in a test. That flexibility made a difference during a busy and unusual return to testing.

The temporary booking arrangements in June 2020

At that time, we asked eligible students to arrange a suitable test with TMR first, then email their confirmation to the school. Our administration team could then organise the test-day package and move lessons where needed.

Historical June 2020 process: check eligibility, book a test with TMR, then email Coastwide to book an instructor
This diagram shows the temporary 2020 process, not current booking instructions.

The original email checklist requested the student's full name, booking reference, test time, test location or centre, pick-up and drop-off addresses, the booking confirmation and any special requests. Email was preferred so the team could concentrate its phone activity on arranging tests.

Who could book under those arrangements?

Our 20 June notice advised that, from Monday 22 June 2020, customers who had held TMR bookings when tests were suspended should be eligible, along with people approved for a priority test.

The notice also explained that people without a booking made before 30 March 2020 could not book at that stage unless they met the priority criteria and had TMR approval. The school had no control over those temporary government conditions.

We expected wider access to follow as testing resumed. These restrictions are preserved here as part of the record of that period and should not be used to assess eligibility today.
