Time to understand the next step

Build a routine you can use on an unfamiliar drive

Coastwide offers driving lessons that build practical skills, with accredited instructors and explanations you can discuss as you learn. Tell your instructor about the driving you've done and the situations where you still need help.

Finding your way in Windaroo

Give yourself time to follow a direction

Windaroo Lakes Golf Club's directions place the course on Anna Louise Terrace and describe an approach along Carl Heck Boulevarde. It's a local example of a journey with several instructions to keep track of.

Learning to follow directions adds a task to steering, observing and choosing your speed. In a lesson, let your instructor know if you need the next instruction earlier or repeated. That gives you time to understand it before deciding how to act.

A missed turn can be discussed

If you realise too late where a turn is, keep driving safely and tell your instructor. You can work out the next suitable option together. Reaching the destination should never depend on a sudden manoeuvre.

Lesson roads are chosen for your experience and the conditions. Confirm your own meeting point with the instructor when arranging your lesson.

From explanation to practice

Work through the part that needs attention

A turn involves several decisions. You might need more time to observe, choose a gap or manage the controls. Describing the difficult part helps your instructor focus the explanation and feedback.

As your driving develops, discuss how to practise those decisions with your supervising driver. For test preparation, use feedback to identify skills that still need work. The Logan driving lesson guide explains the wider lesson offer.
